SUMMARY:Shimano Autumn measure Comp 3rd April - 10th May
DESCRIPTION:Hell yeah\, it’s SHIMANO AWESOME AUTUMN TIME  with Mairangi Bay Fishing Club (MBFC!)  \nThis is a 1-month long measure-based competition running across New Zealand waters (open boundaries\, but fish must be caught within MBFC’s designated zone for entry to year end trophies). \nKey Details: USE NUMBER 107 IN YOUR PHOTO ENTRIES  \nDates: Starts 6am 3rd April 2026→ closes 10th May 2026 at 5pm. \nFormat: Measure comp only (no weighing). All photos must be taken on the club’s official measure mats and clearly include the competition number (107/ TBC) in the shot. \nEntry: Via the MBFC Facebook group (post your photos there). You need to be a current MBFC member to be eligible to win (as at 30 April 2026 for the 2026/27 season). \nMembership gets you free entry into their four major comps + a club measure mat. \nQualified Species: Snapper\, Kingfish\, Trevally\, Gurnard\, Kahawai. \nPrizegiving: You (or a friend) must attend to collect any prizes — the committee won’t hold them. \nRules: Keep reading to the bottom for our measure comp rules and photo guidelines. \nCategories & Prizes (Prizes TBC before start\, but structure is): \n  \nMain Prize — 1st place Lucky Dip (all entered fish across divisions go into one big draw). \nOpen Categories (all anglers): Kingfish 1st\, Trevally 1st\, Gurnard 1st. \nMen’s: Snapper 1st/2nd/3rd\, Kahawai 1st. \nWomen’s: Snapper 1st/2nd/3rd\, Kahawai 1st. \nJunior Under 16: Snapper 1st/2nd/3rd\, Kahawai 1st. \nJunior Under 10: Snapper 1st/2nd/3rd\, Kahawai 1st. \n  \nIt’s a relaxed\, family-friendly measure comp with  prizegiving (held at Mairangi Bay Bowls Club — cheap beers\, food\, yarns\, spot prizes). \n  \n  \nRules:\n1. Fish must be caught within New Zealand waters\n2. Photos to be on club measure mats. If other measure mats are used a deduction to fish\nlength may need to be applied. Please see the measure Guidelines at the bottom of the page.\n3. In the event of cancellation\, the competition will be postponed at the discretion of the committee.\n4. No charters\, no spearfishing\, no long lines\n6. One entry per angler per fish species.\n7. You or a friend must be present at prizegiving to accept prizes. MBFC Committee will not hold prizes for you.\n8. If 2 or more fish of equal weight or length become eligible for a prize\, they will be entered\ninto a draw to select a winner.\n9. It is the skipper’s responsibility to ensure they only take the vessel out in conditions that are\nappropriate to both the type of vessel and their own skill level.\n10. This competition is exclusive to MBFC members only and all competitors must hold a current\nMBFC membership.\n11. Competition organisers reserve the right to reject /disqualify any fish entered at their sole and absolute          discretion for any reason whatsoever\, however organisers also reserve the right to accept an entry on the basis that  an appropriate reduction in length is made for any non-compliance.\n12. New Zealand fishing rules and regulations apply \nNote: It is the responsibility of the skipper to ensure they only take-out vessels that are seaworthy\nand in conditions that are suitable for the vessel and the skippers capabilities. \nBy accepting entry into the competition\, you do so at your own risk\, the Mairangi Bay Fishing Club and /or committee members will accept no liability for damages\, death or loss at sea. \nMEASURING YOUR CATCH FOR MBFC FISHING TOURNAMENTS: \nA clear photograph of the fish\, correctly placed on an official measure\, is critical for your entry into the competition. It is your responsibility to ensure you provide an image that we can use to validate your entry. \nHow length is determined \nThe innermost point of the tail V must touch or exceed the line on the measure to qualify for that 0.5cm increment. For example\, if your fish is just over 50cm but does not reach the 50.5cm mark then the length recorded will be 50.0cm. \nPlease ensure your fish is placed so the tail is evenly spread and the middle of the tail is along the midline of the measure. If the tail appears to be squeezed together\, a deduction in length will be made. \nPhoto checklist \n\nMake sure the photo is of sufficient quality and suitable to enable the species and length to be verified.\nThe photo submitted must be in landscape format. Take the photo from directly above the fish looking down rather than from the front or side.\nTake several photos just in case. Shadows can cause problems if the fish is placed on part sun/part shadow.\nThe tip of either the upper or lower jaw must touch the edge of the MBFC measure mat. It is permissible to place a hand or have someone hold the fish on the measure or use a damp cloth on the fish to settle it while a photo is taken\, provided this does not obscure the fish significantly or prevent the admin team from being able to validate your catch.\nThe V of the tail should be as close to the midline of the measure as possible. All fish must be placed side-on onto the measure.\nThe measure should be placed on a flat surface.\nThe jaw of the fish must not be distorted in an attempt to exaggerate the length.\nFish must be measured fresh and must not be significantly cut in a manner that alters the length. We strongly recommend you DO NOT gut or gill your catch before taking the photo as generally\, it will render the fish ineligible for the competition.\n\nPlease note that your fish may not be eligible if the above conditions are not met\, however organisers reserve the right to accept an entry on the basis that an appropriate reduction in length is made for any non-compliance and/or the MBFC Committee reserve the right to disqualify any catch at their sole and absolute discretion for any reason whatsoever including but not limited to suspected measure tampering and false date submissions. \nUPLOADING YOUR CATCH: \nPost your photo and general location on the MBFC Facebook page to submit. Please include the angler’s name if posting for another member. Once your catch has been approved by the fishing committee your catch will appear on the tournament leaderboard.
